Stefan Zagata FBDO
Stefan is a partner in the family run optical practice of S McNicholas Opticians.
Stefan qualified at Bradford College in 1975 and after a number of years working for some of the largest optical companies in Europe, he decided to join his wife Sarah who founded the independent optical practice of S McNicholas Opticians in 1981 in Horsforth.
They acquired the practice in the Crossgates Centre upon the retirement of Sydney Irving in 1992 who had been in the Arndale Centre since it first opened in 1975.
In 2002 Stefan relocated to larger premises in the Crossgates Centre having established reputation for excellent service, quality eye care and up to date spectacle frames with prices from £10.00 to the latest designer styles from the likes of Gucci, Jimmy Choo, Carrera and Hugo Boss to name just a few.
Stefan also has a special interest in sports eyewear and stocks a variety of specialised eyewear for hobbies and sports as diverse as snooker, angling and rugby. There is more about this on our spectacles page.
Simon Finsbury BSc(Hons) MCOptom FBDO
Simon is the resident optometrist in the Crossgates practice. Having qualified as a dispensing optician in 1989, Simon went back to the University of Bradford to study optometry and qualified in 2006. He joined S McNicholas Opticians in 2010 and has an enviable reputation with the patients at the practice.
Simon is the only optometrist you will see at Crossgates we don't use locums as we believe in building up a lasting relationship with our patients and know how important it is that the health of your eyes is looked after on a continuous basis. So if its an eye examination, contact lens trial or reassurance about the health of your eyes that concerns you, you will always be seen by Simon.
Simon also has interests in low visual aids and dry eye problems and can offer advice and direction to our patients in these areas.
Sarah McNicholas BSc(Hons)
Sarah is the founder of S McNicholas Opticians and qualified in Optometry from Manchester University in 1972. Although now retired from ophthalmic practice, Sarah works part time at the practice several days each week both on reception and as a dispensing optician.
Her huge depth of knowledge of optical practice is of tremendous value to all our patients and she is also there to provide a steadying influence on the two male members of the team at the practice because, as we all know, being a female, she is much better at multi-tasking than her male counterparts!
